The Leadership Team

Johann Burger

- President

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in his native South Africa, Johann spent a number of years in fashion with a successful national retailer before being appointed to the position of CEO with Sportshoe Adidas; the local manufacturer of the international brand Adidas.

Johann immigrated to Canada in 1994 and until 2004 served in executive positions in the natural food industry. In 2005 Johann entered the property development industry where he was responsible for overseeing administration, project management, financing and investor relations for a corporation developing high end single family and multifamily residences.

Johann joined inSite in 2008 as a member of the Board of Directors where he was responsible for advising on project development, financial management and investor relations activities in support of inSite’s industry repositioning and growth strategy. In 2011 Johann became a shareholder and assumed the position of Vice President Business Development where he was primarily responsible for land assembly, project development and investor relations.

In March of 2016, Johann transitioned into the role of President of inSite. In this role Johann sets the overall vision and strategic direction of the company, in addition to overseeing and collaborating with construction management and architectural teams to design and develop new seniors housing and care properties.

Darlene Haslock

 - Chief Operating Officer

Darlene has more than 30 years experience in operations. Her extensive background includes working at Philips International, Laidlaw International Inc., Hudson’s Bay Company, and Cintas Corporation.

Darlene joined inSite in early 2008; initially managing several sites as they transitioned either from opening or to closing. In July 2009 she moved into a permanent role as the Community Administrator at Brandt’s Creek Mews. Over the years Darlene has been responsible for pre-commissioning, operations planning, equipment and supply procurement, manager and employee training, Environmental Health and Licensing permitting and commissioning activities surrounding the opening of Eagle Valley Manor in 2008, Brandt’s Creek Mews in 2009, Mount Ida Mews in 2012, Monashee Mews in 2013 and Lakeside Manor Phase II in 2016.

Darlene moved into her current role as Chief Operating Officer in May 2013; as an experienced administrative manager with strong communication, business administration, human resource and information technology skills she oversees the operations at each inSite community. Darlene acts as inSite’s lead on hardware procurement for operational needs and represents all sites in labour relations, performance management and organizational development initiatives.

Keri Girard

Chief Financial Officer

Keri is a Certified General Accountant who joined inSite after several years in the Natural Foods industry. In her role as CFO, Keri is primarily responsible for providing operational and financial support to the organization. Since her appointment into this role, Keri has gained an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of inSite’s business.

Keri has extensive experience in financial analysis, budgetary planning and costs management in both health services and property development. She has developed tools and financial models that provide critical operational and financial advice and direction to the Board of Directors. Keri is highly skilled in financial reporting, job costing, inventory management, payroll, development of internal controls, and other administrative financial procedures.

Throughout her financial management career Keri has acted in a leadership role on numerous financial and government audits. At inSite she is responsible for all financial communications and reporting to provincial health authorities, financial institutions and corporations as well as independent investors.

Along with her specific accounting experience Keri also has considerable knowledge and experience in the selection, implementation, and ongoing administration of various information technologies. Keri continues to broaden this additional skillset by overseeing inSite’s ERP and Payroll systems as well as the company’s computer and networking systems, and providing training and support to all departments.

Todd Mallen

- Director of Resident Services

Having worked within the Hotel & Resort & Senior Care industry for over 30 years, Todd brings an extensive background in hospitality. Todd has worked with several full service resort companies in the capacity of Resort Manager and Director of Operations. He was responsible for the overall resort management, the financial success, and guest satisfaction. Todd has also served as a board member of the Kelowna Motel & Hotel Association and board member of Destination Osoyoos.

In his current position as Director of Resident Services with inSite, Todd is responsible for coordinating, developing, evaluating and revising hospitality and building services at each inSite community. He is a very passionate, extremely enthused and confident individual who enjoys learning about the motivations of others, coaching and leading, and most of all helping others.
